Green Force in brief
Green Force is a non-governmental and non-profit volunteer organisation, which is comprised of young volunteers between the ages of 18-25. The volunteers are leaders, innovative and creative, energetic and intelligent with a passion to Save Earth and Save Humanity.
Green Force strives to make the world a better place so that climate change is not a threat to the day to day lives of humans and other living species, who share our planet.
Based in Colombo, Kandy and Matale districts, Green Force initiates projects on climate change with the association of schools in their respective regions. Projects cover a wide scope and range of issues pertaining to climate change. They fall under three categories, which are raising awareness among youth, adaptation and mitigation.
- Raising awareness among the youth on climate change
- Establishing Green Force student units in schools
- Production of films based on life on earth in an age of climate change
- Installing Algal bio-reactors in selected schools
- Greening the economy
The unit is involved in research and understanding the scientific principles underlying the phenomonenon of climate change. The knowledge acquired in doing so, is used to build, design and implement strategies and methodologies to combat climate change.
Members of this unit will be working on subjects related to climate change mitigation.
The fields of application are renewable energy, waste management, energy conservation, health issues, mitigating options for industrial and agricultural sectors and as a whole influence sustainable development.
The media unit works on the strategy of using media as a tool to raise climate awareness among communities.
The unit is involved in the production of video documentaries, maintaining blogs, campaigning on social sites, producing on stage dramas, street dramas as well as art and musical campaigns.
Writing to papers and magazines in order to focus the attention of readers on the issue of climate change is another task undertaken by the media unit. Creative and innovative minds, who are expressive through the forms of arts and music could take part in the Media unit.
The unit consists of public speakers who indulge in raising awareness regarding climate change among students and the youth. They work during lectures and workshops organized by Green Force.
The finance unit manages the accounts within the organization and the accounts of projects undertaken. Apart from this, the unit is involved in identifying funding opportunities for important climate change projects.
